Information provided by Strongsville Fire and Emergency Services.
Strongsville Fire and Emergency Services put out a residential wall fire that apparently started with a short-circuited extension cord on Monday. Residents at a house on the 14400 block of Boston Road called at about 5 p.m. Monday to report "a fire in the wall" and they “opened up the wall of the house but could not put out the fire,” the fire department said. Four Strongsville fire units and a command car (12 firefighters and the shift commander) initially responded to the call. In addition, North Royalton, Brunswick and Middleburg Heights provided mutual aid. When firefighters arrived, one of the occupants of the home was using a garden hose to attempt to put the fire out but was unsuccessful. Crews were sent to the attic where they …

There is a voluntary recall on a toy exclusively sold at Kohl's.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall on toy truck gifts given with the purchase of boys T-shirts exclusively at Kohl's because one caught fire and three others were smoldering. The toy is battery operated and there have been reports that the battery compartment can smolder or catch the trucks on fire, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers, according to a Fire Service Alert forwarded to Patch by Stow Fire Safety Educator Sandy Ray. Police are investigating the fires that left Steve and Bernice's van and another car charred early Tuesday morning.
Steve and Bernice, who declined to give their last names for this story, woke up around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday to the horn of their 2003 Honda Odyssey blaring in their Collier Drive driveway. “It wasn’t the alarm, it was more like a constant blare,” Steve said. “So when the key remote wouldn’t turn it off, I went to the window, and that’s when I saw the smoke.” Steve then ran outside and grabbed the hose. In the heat of the moment, he remembered to turn the water on, and ran to the driver side of the van, where the flame was. “When I went to shoot the flame on the driver side, nothing happened,” he said as he was spraying black sludge from the driveway into the storm drain. “The hose wasn’t attached.” He gave a chuckle, and then started …

Police are investigating the fires, which happened around 2 a.m.
Editor's Note: This story has been updated to show the most recent information available. Two cars on Collier Drive caught fire around 2 a.m. Tuesday, said Strongsville Fire Lt. Ken Barrett. It appears no one was injured. Strongsville Police are investigating the cause of the fires, and didn't say if the fire was intentional or if any suspects have been identified. Barrett said a Honda Odyssey van and an Oldsmobile Alero sedan, parked down the street from each other, have been impounded by police. A witness, who asked to remain anonymous, said he was awaken by a loud boom around 1:20 a.m., and ran outside to see the Odyssey engulfed in flames. Firefighters arrived shortly, the man said, and were dousing the van when another person came …
