Two parcels go for $445,000 at sheriff's sale
The long-vacant Quality Catering property at Pearl and Whitney roads has been sold at sheriff's auction to a local company. North Pearl LLC purchased two parcels -- the former Quality Catering site and an adjacent vacant lot at the southwest corner of Whitney and Pearl -- for $445,000. The two foreclosed parcels at 9192 Pearl Rd. were valued at $424,000 for the sale. Minimum bid was $282,667. Attorney Nick Catanzarite, who represents North Pearl, said the property will eventually be developed. "Once the sale is finalized, the building will be demolished and the site will be marketed for re-development," Catanzarite said. Developers have made two serious bids for the property in recent years, but neither plan got off the ground. Sheetz …

Planning Commission makes no recommendation yet on parcel at Whitney and Pearl
Strongsville's Planning Commission took no action on a request to rezone two parcels of land at the corner of Whitney and Pearl roads Thursday night, delaying a recommendation until project developers can make a presentation. But commission members indicated they were pleased with preliminary plans submitted by O'Charley's and Sheetz for a restaurant and gas station/car wash at that corner. Assistant City Engineer Lori Daley said the developers have been working with the city since at least the beginning of the year on a plan for the two businesses. Both were introduced in January by WXZ Development Inc., which is seeking to develop the vacant land in front of Lowe's. WXZ is wants to rezone one parcel from General Business to Restaurant-…

O'Charley's gets a warm welcome from small group of residents; Sheetz, not so much
Developers gave residents their first glimpse of plans for the northeast corner of Pearl and Whitney roads Tuesday night, seeking to build an O'Charley's restaurant and a Sheetz gas station in front of Lowe's. The Nashville, TN-based restaurant chain is seeking to construct a 6,400-square-foot eatery that would seat about 200 on the other side of the access road from GFS. If things go smoothly, the company could break ground in the summer and open four months later, architect Kim Phillips said. Sheetz would go at the corner of Whitney and Pearl. About two dozen residents at the meeting welcomed O'Charley's, which would include a patio and an extensive menu. "We need somthing on that side of town," one woman in the audience commented. They …

Public is invited to hear about plans for corner
The new developers of the long-in-coming retail project at the corner of Pearl and Whitney roads will host a public meeting Tuesday, Jan. 24 to talk about plans there. WXZ Development Inc., have set a public meeting for 7 p.m. at the Ehrnfelt Recreation Center to talk about the first phase of the project, which city officials said is to include an O'Charley's restaurant and a Sheetz gas station. The parcel at Whitney and Pearl has been tied up in foreclosure since the Toledo-based Timberstone development group ran into financial obstacles and bowed out in 2009. Timberstone was the second developer to plan and then abandon a project there. Residents were promised a major retail project, to be called Renaissance Park, that would include a …

Company sets public meeting for next week
A long-in-coming retail project at the corner of Pearl and Whitney roads is moving again. The new developers, WXZ Development Inc., have set a public meeting for 7 p.m. Jan. 24 at the Ehrnfelt Recreation Center to talk about the first phase of the project, which city officials said is to include an O'Charley's restaurant and a Sheetz gas station. The project was already dealt a small setback. On Tuesday night, City Council formally objected to a liquor permit sought by O'Charley's, saying the company had not yet turned in any plans for the restaurant. Law Director Ken Kraus said the city could not review the project for health and safety requirements, and opposed the permit "based on the lack of information at this point." The parcel at …
