Mustangs varsity, JV win at home Tuesday night
The Strongsville High School boys varsity basketball team won a nail-biter over Avon Lake at home Tuesday night with a 3-point shot that broke a tie with 12 seconds left. The Mustangs beat the Shoremen 55-52. Tom Krokey led the Mustangs with 14 points. Strongsville led 34-23 at the half and took a 14-point lead at one point, but Avon Lake tied the score at 50 with 1:20 left in the game. With the score tied again at 52, the Mustangs hit a 3-point shot with 12 seconds left. The Strongsville JV team also scored a last-minute victory with a basket at the buzzer that put them 38-37 over Avon Lake. The freshman Mustangs also won Tuesday night agains Holy Name High School, 49-44.

Strongsville boys basketball team loses to Medina
The Strongsville High School boys basketball team led at the half, but fell in the end to the Medina bees at home Friday night. The Mustangs were ahead 32-29 at the halfway point, but ended the night down 62-50. Alex Barnes led Strongsville with 14 points. Turnovers -- 18 of them for Strongsville -- spelled the difference in the JV game, where a hot-shooting Medina team bested the Mustangs 51-31. The freshman Mustangs scored another win, though, beating the Bees 47-33.

Mustangs end regular season on a high note
The Strongsville Mustangs ended their regular basketball season with a win at home over the Medina Bees, 60-57. The Mustangs led at the half after hitting six 3-pointers in the first quarter, and started the fourth quarter up 43-35. Earlier this season, Strongsville lost to the Bees by 19 points. The varsity boys were 4-16 on the season.

Mustangs drop to 3-9 on season
The Mustangs held an early lead against St. Ignatius in boys basketball action at home Friday night, but lost 81-44. Strongsville led 16-12 after the first quarter, but lost the lead and did not regain it. In the junior varsity game, St. Ignatius won 81-39.

Mustangs now 1-5 on season
Since their week one loss, the Twinsburg Tigers have found their stride, winning three of their last four games heading into Friday night's match-up with Strongsville. Strongsville, meanwhile, came into the game with a slow-starting season but a win last week against Valley Forge. But it was Twinsburg that continued its winning ways by recording a convincing 35-9 victory over the Mustangs. Tigers running back John Barton again played a key role in yet another Tigers' victory, as he rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns and caught a shovel pass for a score. Mustangs fall 38-21
The Strongsville Mustangs dropped their fourth straight football game Sunday, losing 38-21 to Elyria at home. The game was postponed from Friday, when some 30 Elyria varsity and JV players missed school due to illness.
