A rubber duck race on the Rocky River and a free Kids Fest are set for June 1 at the Cleveland Metroparks Chalet in Strongsville The event, which runs 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., will be sponsored by Pat Catan’s Craft Centers and hosted by the Rotary Club of Strongsville. Kids Fest activities will include pony rides, inflatables, magic, face painting and Touch-a-Truck featuring a Strongsville fire engine and other vehicles. Hot dogs, snacks and beverages will be available. Metroparks NatureTracks, a mobile classroom designed to expand visitors' knowledge of nature, will be on-site. The Rotary Club of Strongsville will have its first-ever duck race on June 1 as part of a Kids Fest celebration at the Cleveland Metroparks Chalet. The event will run 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and include pony rides, inflatables, food, touch-a-truck and other activities. Ducks will launch at 2 p.m. at the Strongsville Wildlife Area. The racers will float down the river, with a winner named at the Chalet. You can adopt a duck for $10 or a flock of three for $20. The top 10 finishers will win prizes, including $2,000 for first, $1,500 for second and $1,000 for third. SHS grad is honored for her acting career
March 8 was Tricia Tanguy Day in Strongsville in honor of the 2002 Strongsville High School graduate's successful acting career. Mayor Tom Perciak read the proclamation Friday during the weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Strongsville. Tanguy, who is currently performing in Sister Act at the Palace Theater in Cleveland, received the honor in the presence of family members, including her parents, as well as her Strongsville High School choir and band instructors Eric Richardson and Ken Mehalko. Tanguy, the daughter of Mike and AnnMarie Tanguy, attended Whitney Elementary School and Albion Middle School before graduating from Strongsville High School in 2002. Shooting of 14-year-old prompts local civic leaders to action
The Rotary Club of Strongsville is leading efforts to raise $10,000 for new and improved educational efforts for young women in Pakistan through the first-ever “Reach Within” campaign. Educational efforts will be executed by the Swat Relief Initiative, a nonprofit humanitarian organization in Pakistan, along with Rotary Clubs in the Swat district of Pakistan. Pledging $1,000 for the project, the Rotary Club of Strongsville emphasizes that Northeast Ohio citizens can participate in the campaign in a multitude of creative ways; everyone can reach within their hearts to make a difference. John Turnbull will represent group on New Year's Day
John Turnbull of Strongsville will be among the 16 Rotarians from around the world accompanying the Rotary International float in the 2013 Tournament of Roses Rose Parade in Pasadena, CA on New Year’s Day. Turnbull, secretary of the Rotary Club of Strongsville, was selected to walk along side the float in the 124th annual event. The Rotary float will reflect the service organization’s 2012-2013 theme of “Peace through Service” and will feature a world globe representing the community and global service performed by Rotary International’s 1.2 million members in more than 210 countries worldwide. Strongsville Rotary's third annual event offers 'A Taste in Strongsville'
The Rotary Club of Strongsville will host its Third Annual Savor the Flavor - A Taste in Strongville on Sunday, Oct. 14 from 4-7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Strongsville. The charity event, which will benefit area food banks and other Rotary projects, offers an opportunity to sample food from some of finest restaurants in and around Strongsville. Last year’s event raised $5,000. Along with food stations from more than 20 area restaurants, the event will feature a blind wine pull/raffle and a wine sampling featuring selections from around the world. The Strongsville Rotary will host a "Summer Solstice" 5K run and 1-mile walk/run on June 16. Proceeds will benefit John Owen's Adventure, which seeks to derail Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Strongsville Rotary event is a huge fundraiser -- and lots of fun
The 21st annual B'laster Chili Open Golf Classic is set for Feb. 25 at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds. The event runs 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and includes a frosty round of golf, food, raffles and a celebrity auction. Organized by the Rotary Club of Strongsville, the Chili Open has raised more than $2 million for charity since 1992. The all-volunteer event has become a February tradition in Northeast Ohio, drawing nearly 1,000 golfers who tee off into blasts of frigid air, putt across frozen greens and warm up with hot food and indoor activities.
