Toboggan Chutes have Special Holiday Hours

Popular attraction will be open during the day all week

  The Chalet Toboggan Chutes will have special hours while kids are off school during winter break: Dec. 25:  Closed  Dec. 26:  Noon to 10:30 p.m. Dec. 27:  Noon to 10:30 p.m. Dec. 28:  Noon to 10:30 p.m. Dec. 29:  Noon to 10:30 p.m.  Dec. 30:  Noon to 10:30 p.m. Dec. 31:  Noon to 5 p.m. Jan. 1:    Noon to 10:30 p.m. Jan. 2:    Noon to 10:30 p.m. Jan. 3:    Noon to 10:30 p.m. Jan. 4:    Noon to 10:30 p.m. Jan. 5:    Noon to 5 p.m. The chutes this year feature a new lift that carries your toboggan to the top of the hill, so all you have to do is walk up the steps. The chutes, with a 70-foot drop that sends toboggans down 700 feet of ice at 45 mph, operate with or without snow. Daily admission fee is $10 for adults and $8 for children 11 and…

Toboggan Chutes Open Friday with Special Holiday Hours

Plus, new lift at The Chalet means no more carrying heavy sleds up the stairs

  Cleveland Metroparks Chalet Toboggan Chutes will be open Friday, Nov. 23 with special holiday hours -- noon to 10:30 p.m., weather permitting. When you visit the Chalet this winter, you'll find a new addition -- a long-awaited toboggan lift. The lift will use a 12 horse-power motor and cable system to mechanically pull the toboggans on a tow 150 feet up the hill to a receiving deck where they will be stored. Cleveland Metroparks staff will load and unload the toboggans. Riders will be able just walk up the steps to the top of the chutes, without lugging their toboggans with them. Last Chance for Hayrides is This Weekend

The Chalet has other family fun, too

  This weekend is your last chance to take a fall hayride at the Chalet Recreation Area in Cleveland Metroparks' Mill Stream Run Reservation. The final tractor-drawn hayrides of the season are set for 6-10 p.m. Saturday and 1-4 p.m. Sunday. Rides are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, and leave approximately every half hour. The hayrides cost $8 for adults, $6 for children 3 to 11, and are free for children 2 and under (must sit on adult lap). Families can also enjoy a hay maze and entertainment at The Chalet, and on Saturday nights, square dancing for all ages. On Sundays, free bonus activities include coloring and craft stations and pumpkin painting (for a nominal fee). Group hayrides are available before, during, and after …

Hayrides offered at Chalet in Metroparks

Tractor-drawn haywagon rides are Saturdays and Sundays in October

The Cleveland Metroparks will offer fall hayrides on weekends this October at the Chalet Recreation Area in Mill Stream Run Reservation in Strongsville. Join the fall weekend tradition on Saturday nights - Oct. 15, 22, and 29 from 6 to 10 p.m., and Sunday afternoons - Oct. 16, 23, and 30 from noon to 4 p.m. The tractor-drawn hayrides are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, and leave approximately every half-hour. Cost is $7.50 per adult and $5.50 for kids ages 3 to 11. Kids 2 and under ride free on an adult lap. In addition to the hayrides, there will be free activities, including square dancing, a hay maze, scavenger hunts and a face-painting and balloon-twisting clown. Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day and federal, state and some local government offices are closed. If you have to work today, traffic should be lighter on the highways but heavier around town as many people have the day off. 1. Strongsville City Hall  and the schools are closed today. The City Council meeting that would normally be held tonight is set for 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Mike Kalinich Sr. City Council Chambers, 18600 Royalton Road. 2. The Walter F. Crowds Fulfill Their Need for Speed at Chalet

Toboggan chutes provide an icy joyride

Who needs snow for downhill thrills? At the Chalet, all you need is cold weather -- and gloves or mittens -- for an exhilarating ride. Thousands took advantage of the extended hours for tobogganing over the holiday week at the Chalet, located in the Cleveland Metroparks Mill Stream Run Reservation in Strongsville.   "This is my first time here," said Dustin Hemming of Avon, who brought his son, Collin, 6.  With them were Brian Reed of Avon and his nephew Tommy Bartley, visiting from Toledo, also making their first visit to the 1,000-foot twin refrigerated chutes. 1. The Walter F. Ehrnfelt Recreation and Senior Center will close early on Friday (hours that day are 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.) for New Year's Eve and will be closed all day Jan. 1. 2.
