New estimates show the number of residents is declining
Strongsville is getting smaller, a newly released estimate from the U.S. Census Bureau shows. While the official 2010 census count put the city at 44,750 residents, that figure dropped to 44,400 in 2011, the estimate says -- a loss of 350 people in one year. City officials weren't happy with the 2010 census figures, which showed Strongsville grew by only 852 people in the last decade and conflicted with their own projections. City Planner Bob Hill said he had been keeping track of population based on new home building statistics and had estimated Strongsville would be 46,000 people strong by 2010. The estimates are based on interviews with almost 2 million housing units each year from 2007 through 2011. By pooling several years of …

Here's some information about the city from the U.S. Census
Some housing facts culled from the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey, which offers estimates from 2008-2010 on social and economic characteristics of cities: 1. Most Strongsville residents own their homes. Not very surprising. Thre are 17,567 housing units in Strongsville, and only about 3,500 of those are rentals, including houses and apartments. 2. Seems like the city's homes are new, but Strongsville's older than you might think. A full 50 percent of the city's housing units were built before 1980. The biggest growth decade was the 1970s, when 28 percent of the homes here were constructed. Another 22 percent were built in the 1990s. Only 10 percent went up after 2000. 3. The houses are, in fact, pretty big. About 50 …

Strongsville is above average in vehicle ownership, U.S. Census figures show
Lots of traffic in Strongsville? Maybe it has to do with the number of cars. The city ranks above average in vehicle ownership, according to the U.S. Census. Almost 68 percent of households own two or more vehicles, and 22.5 percent own 3 or more. In Ohio, the average for three or more vehicles is 20.3 percent; nationwide, it's 20 percent. About 58 percent of households in the United States own two or more cars. According to the Census, 4 percent of Strongsville households do not have a vehicle, 28 percent have one vehicle and 45 percent have two. It's a bit simplistic to say, though, that the relatively high car ownership rates contribute significantly to the traffic in town. Figures show that a whopping 54,000 vehicles a day go through …

As long as our local Strongsville government keeps stressing business and industrial development at the expense of our quality of living, then Strongsville will continue to be a less desirable place to move into. I am already way less happy with Strongsville than when I chose to buy a house here 8 years ago. Strongsville has lost a lot of its charm with the new development and its traffic jams …   more ›
