Commenters Scold Coaches Who Fought During Youth Basketball Game

According to witnesses, the adults coaches were arguing about the game and commenters on Patch are upset that these men aren't leading by example.

Two basketball coaches were issued minor misdemeanor citations for disorderly conduct after they get into a fight during a youth basketball game in Twinsburg — and readers aren't happy about the situation. According to police, one of the coaches threw the other coach to the ground at Edge Sports Performance Academy in Twinsburg Jan. 26. One of the coaches is from Strongsville. Police officers said there was blood on the right hand and nose of one of the coaches. Both coaches did the right thing after it happen. If your child is going to play compettive sports for some time this will most likely happen to them expect it. On a positive note some of the players I am sure picked up on what not to do so a lesson was learned move on and play ball.   more ›

The days when children could try their hands at sports about age 10 are long gone. By the end of the elementary school years, many children have chosen a sport in which to specialize. It is likely those children have been participating in that sport since preschool. Youth sports are becoming increasingly serious business. Competition for spots on high school teams and the potential for college scholarships are driving the push toward earlier and more intense involvement in youth sports. The amount of time and money required can put great strain on families. It also unfairly excludes kids whose parents cannot afford the cost or get home from work in time to take them to practices. I have two boys. One is 13 and the other is 14 yrs old. We to have encouraged sports, but baseball is the sport of chose for both the boys. My 14 yr old just had his first game with 14/15 yr old boys. He has always been the youngest on his baseball team due to his birthday and feels very intimidated by other players.
