Low-Income Students to Get Bag of Food for Weekend
Kemper House launches program at Drake Elementary
Low-income students at Drake Elementary School will soon receive a bag of food to take home for the weekend -- just in case meals at home are scarce. Kemper House, the Alzheimer's care facility on Prospect Road, is parnering with the national Blessings in a Backpack program to make sure kids don't go hungry. Jennifer Nance, spokeswoman for Kemper House, said that on any given Friday, up to 150 students at Drake may be going home without knowing when their next meal will be. "It will also be an intergenerational opportunity for our Alzheimer's residents. They will be filling the bags every week for the kids," Nance said.
