Restaurant, Wine Bar Eyes Pearl Road

Business eyes space next to Taste of Excellence

An upscale wine bar and restaurant is seeking approval to open on Pearl Road. Strongsville's Planning Commission is expected Thursday night to consider conditional use permits for the small restaurant and wine-martini bar at 16888 Pearl Rd., next to A Taste of Excellence. Blue Banyon Inc. has already obtained a liquor permit, according to Lawrence Jaeger, a Strongsville resident who would own the business. Plans call for a 1,944-square-foot restaurant that would seat a maximum of 50 people, and a 649-square-foot outdoor patio for up to 20 people. "I'm excited about it," Jaeger said. "I think it will fill a niche." He envisions it as an upscale wine and martini bar where people will meet after work for a drink and small-plate fare, and a …

Kerry, you're right. The wine bar was granted a parking variance by the Board of Zoning Appeals -- for 18 spaces, if I remember correctly. They also arranged easements for some off-site parking, most likely to be used by employees.   more ›

City Objects to Liquor Permit for New Restaurant

Plans for Howe Road eatery haven't been submitted yet

City Council will file a conditional objection to a liquor permit for a proposed new restaurant on Howe Road because it's too early. Craft Brew Company Inc. is seeking a liquor permit for a new restaurant the company hopes to build on the site of a proposed daycare center at 16555 Howe Rd., next to SouthPark Mall. But because the company has not yet built the restaurant -- or submitted plans  -- the city has put a hold on the request. Law Director Ken Kraus said there is not enough information yet on whether the restaurant would comply with health and safety regulations to clear the way for the state to issue a liquor permit. Craft Brew Inc. was the successful bidder in a sheriff's auction Feb. 27 for the parcel on Howe Road. The firm paid…

Wine Bar Still Seeking to Open on Pearl Road

Blue Banyon goes before city zoning board

An upscale wine bar is pursuing plans to open on Pearl Road. Blue Banyon Inc. is slated to go before the city's Board of Zoning Appeals tonight to ask for a parking variance. The company says it can provide 62 parking spaces, which is 18 less than the city's code requires. The wine bar would open at 16888 Pearl Rd., next to A Taste of Excellence. The company sought a liquor permit in March, but City Council filed an objection, saying it was too early. Plans for the restaurant had not yet been submitted to Strongsville's Building Department. Bill Rini, who owns both the Taste of Excellence catering company and the multi-tenant Pearl Road building, said he hopes to lease about 3,000 square feet to Blue Banyon for a combination restaurant-…

Two Businesses Seek Liquor Permits

City has no problem with one, but objects to the other

Two Strongsville businesses are applying for permits to sell carryout liquor. Strongsville Seafood, 12521 Pearl Rd., and Jalan Oil, doing business as Gas N Food, 8952 Pearl Rd., have both applied to the Ohio Department of Liquor Control for permission to sell alcohol. City Council on Monday had no objection to Strongsville Seafood's request, but made a conditional objection to the service station's permit. Building Commissioner Tony Biondillo reported Gas N Food is in violation of some of the city's building regulations. Once those are corrected, the city will lift its objection to the liquor permit, Council President Mike Daymut said. The city routinely inspects businesses applying for liquor permits, and also asks the police and fire …

Restaurant, Wine Bar Eyes Pearl Road Site

Upscale eatery would move in next to Taste of Excellence

A small restaurant and upscale wine bar is looking to open on Pearl Road next to A Taste of Excellence. Blue Banyon Inc. is seeking a liquor permit for 16888 Pearl Rd., adjacent to the catering company. City Council on Monday formally objected to the permit, saying it is too early for the company to seek one. Plans for the restaurant have not yet been submitted to Strongsville's Building Department. But Bill Rini, who owns the Pearl Road building that houses his Taste of Excellence catering company, said he hopes to lease about 3,000 square feet to Blue Banyon for a combination restaurant-wine bar. "It's going to be a trendy kind of place," Rini said.  Representatives from Blue Banyon could not be reached for comment. Rini said the …
