Strongsville Plant to Expand

Eberhard Manufacturing wants to add 20,000 square feet

  A Strongville manufacturing company is seeking to build an addition to its facility at 21944 Drake Rd. Eberhard Manufacturing will add 19,680 square feet to its plant, Strongsville officials said. Economic Development Director Brent Painter said he did not know how many new jobs might be created by the expansion. "It's just a good sign that they're growing," Painter said. Eberhard makes hardware for industries and vehicles, including latches, locks and handles.  It outfits buses with a variety of items and supplies the military with parts for its vehicles.

Looks Like Strongsville will Sign Poaching Agreement After All

City introduces legislation about business-stealing

The city is poised to sign a "no poaching" agreement proposed by County Executive Ed FitzGerald after  FitzGerald has asked the 57 suburbs to agree not to pursue businesses in other local communities, and about 28 have signed the contract so far.  Strongsville has held out -- not because officials want to "poach" businesses from other cities, but because of technical issues over the 169 acres of industrial land the city will soon try to sell to developers. "We don't poach," Mayor Tom Perciak has said. But he said Strongsville is in the unique position of owning 169 acres of undeveloped industrial land, and needs to be able to market it to the types of businesses the city wants. Business Roundup: 4,000 New Jobs Since 2009, Tenant for Borders, Kohl's Plans Upgrade

City official reports on Strongsville's economic development

About 4,000 jobs have been created in Strongsville since the end of the recession in 2009, Economic Development Director Brent Painter said. In his quarterly business update, Painter said the city had 27,500 full- and part-time workers in 2004. By 2009, the number had dipped to 26,000. But 2,000 jobs came to town in 2010 and 2011, according to information from the Regional Income Tax Agency. "That represents another 4,000 new jobs since the end of the recession," Painter said. Some other highlights of Painter's report: New industry -- Precision Production is moving into a vacant building on Dow Circle.
