Marks Road to Reopen by June 1

Culvert replacement will start soon

  A culvert under Marks Road will be replaced soon and the road will reopen to traffic by June 1, a city official said. City Engineer Ken Mikula said Strongsville was able to fast-track the culvert project -- a job not scheduled to be done till 2014 -- to get Marks Road reopened before a project on Boston Road starts June 1. "We need to get this going," Mikula said. "We have to be done and the road reopened by June 1 because that's when work will start on Boston at the railroad tracks." I do not see why they need to spend all that money to fix the Boston road train tracks ...........they already have a posted speed limit and stop signs at the tracks ...........now I have not taken the drivers test in years but as I recall you are not to drive faster than the posted speed limit .............and you are supposed to stop at those red signs marked STOP ....... following those rules …   more ›

Marks Road Closed; No Reopening in Sight

Collapsing culvert pipe prompted emergency shut-down

  The city abruptly closed Marks Road between Lunn Road and the railroad tracks last week after a Cuyahoga County inspector said a culvert under the road was ready to collapse. When will it reopen? Hard to say. The culvert is not scheduled to be repaired until 2014, City Engineer Ken Mikula said. "We're going to try to accelerate that," Mikula said. Officials are also looking at a possible temporary repair that would allow the road to be opened before the culvert is replaced. Mikula said the corrugated metal pipe has corroded on the bottom, and the weight of traffic is causing the road to buckle. The city is responsible for maintaining culverts, but county engineers handle inspections. Mikula said officials have been watching the culvert …
