Movie recommendations from the Strongsville Library
Joseph Jones of the Strongsville Library offers up some more movie choices that you may have passed by, but are worth a second look. All are available at the library, 18700 Westwood Drive. Post Grad — Ryden thought she had everything worked out, but like a lot of college graduates today she finds the job market more difficult than she planned. When she loses out on her dream job, she is forced to move back home with her dysfunctional family. It is there that she realizes that it is OK if life doesn’t always work out the way you thought. Cash — What would you do if you found a suitcase full of cash? For Sam and Leslie they thought it was the answer to their dreams. Until one day a man comes to collect what he says is his. Having already …

A dark comedy, a light comedy and a touching drama will fit any mood
Here are some film choices for weekend viewing, courtesy of Joseph Jones of the Strongsville branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library. In the Loop — In this satirical and dark comedy, an innocent comment that war is inevitable starts a furious behind-the-scenes battle between politicians on both sides of the Atlantic. Full of over-the-top backstabbing and political maneuvering, we can only hope that our real politicians use a little more restraint. Tooth Fairy — We can easily imagine Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as a tough as nails hockey player. How about when his character Derek Thompson goes a bit too far and is sentenced to two weeks as a tooth fairy? The Rock is able to pull it off with his own style and show us that is OK to have …

Some DVD choices for the weekend
Some old gangster and suspense movies and a drama highlight this week's picks, courtesy of Joseph Jones of the Strongsville branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library. Greatest Gangster Films Collection: Prohibition Era — Before The Godfather or Goodfellas there were the gangster movies of the 1930s. Here are four of the better ones starring such screen legends as Edgar G. Robinson, James Cagney and Humphrey Bogart. Everything that has come since can trace their roots here. Hammer Films: Icons of Suspense Collection — If you are old enough, you probably remember Hammer Films as being the premiere studio for horror movies from the late 1950s into the 1970s. What most people don’t realize is they made other films as well. This collection …

Local officials will help remind residents to Reconnect with Reading
Look for local leaders to start popping up on posters around town, but not to promote their own re-election. City Council members, Mayor Tom Perciak, school board members and others will be featured in the Strongsville Library's Reconnect With Reading campaign, which aims to remind people to pick up a book in their spare time. "We just want to get the word out that reading is important and show there are community leaders who are reading," said Heather Timko, adult services supervisor for the Strongsville branch. The American Library Association launched the idea a few years back by asking TV and movie stars to pose with their favorite books for billboards and posters. The Cuyahoga County Public Library

Joseph Jones of the Strongsville branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library has come up with another set of DVDs you can check out (literally -- they're all available at the library) this weekend. Touching Home — Twin brothers Lane and Clint Winston refuse to give up their dream of playing professional baseball. A lack of money sends them back to their hometown where they come into contact again with their alcoholic father. More a story of family bonds and less about baseball, it is loosely based on the true life story of Logan and Noah Miller, who play the twin brothers in the film. Bright Star — Taking its title from one of John Keats' poems, this is a period movie you may have missed. Set in the Regency Era in England, it focuses on …

Horror novelist, comic book writer is a hit at Strongsville Library
Joe Hill's tweet Wednesday night: "Wow, Strongville was amazing. Big thanks to everyone who turned out for it. Couldn't have had more fun." Strongsville's return tweet: "Right back at ya." Some 200 people jammed the Strongsville Library Wednesday to hear Joe Hill talk about his work, ask him questions and get him to sign his horror books -- Heart-Shaped Box, Twentieth Century Ghosts and Horns, newly released in paperback and headed for the big screen. Hill walked in wearing light-up red horns on his head, to the delight of his fans. "You've gotta have your fun where you can get it," he shrugged. Hill read one of his short stories, then fielded questions about everything from how he deals with writer's block to growing up with a famous dad…
