Sheetz Plans Moving Forward at Whitney and Pearl

Company seeking to build second location in Strongsville

The proposed Sheetz at the corner of Whitney and Pearl roads is moving forward. Company representatives have submitted site plans for a 6,558-square-foot gas station with convenience store and car wash for vacant land at the intersection. Sheetz also asked the Planning Commission to approve 419 square feet for an inside eating area seating up to 27, and 715 square feet outside for a patio seating a maximum of 22 people. The commission did not yet approve the plans, instead referring developers to the Board of Zoning Appeals for conditional use permits for both the outside patio and for a small propane storage area. It's the first action on the project since City Council rezoned the property in January. It is expected to be joined on the …

Sheetz, O'Charley's Get Green Light

City Council agrees to rezone land at Whitney and Pearl for both businesses

Plans for a Sheetz gas station and O'Charley's restaurant got a stamp of a approval from City Council Monday. Council voted unanimously to rezone land at the corner of Pearl and Whitney roads for the new restaurant, and 6-1 in favor of rezoning another parcel for Sheetz. "Despite a lot of fears, there will not be adverse impacts" on things like traffic, said Bruce Rinker, attorney for the developers. A number of residents have objected to Sheetz, saying the gas station and car wash will add to traffic problems on Pearl and Whitney. Others said a gas station is not consistent with the original plans -- and their hopes -- for that corner. At least one city official agrees. Councilman at large Joe DeMio voted against the Sheetz rezoning, …

As someone who lives in this part of town I don't want a Sheetz. I think Circle K could expand to be like other stores and demolish the motel right next door to make it happen. Then this lot and sots where the motels are could be used for retail or restaurants since we don't many eateries in this part of town. Baskin Robbins and Dunkin Donuts could still be built. Since we have no restaurants …   more ›

Handful Protest Sheetz Rezoning at Public Hearing

City Council takes no action yet on controversial project

A handful of people formally opposed a plan to rezone a parcel at the corner of Whitney and Pearl roads for a Sheetz gas station during a public hearing Monday night. The small group told City Council that Strongsville doesn't need a gas station there, mostly because it would put more vehicles on the already crowded roads. "I don't think we want another traffic headache in this city," Glenn Moenich Jr. of Stamford Court said. Bruce Rinker, attorney for the developers, said a study has shown that the Sheetz would capture passing traffic, but not add to the amount in the Pearl-Whitney area.  No one spoke against a measure to rezone an adjacent parcel for an O'Charley's restaurant. Both projects were introduced in January by WXZ Development…

nice point Tom, I think that sheetz would only grab the passing motorist while ocharleys would bring additional cars to the location so the small group of protesters are complaining about the wrong business, their complaint should be towards ocharleys   more ›

Sheetz, O'Charley's Plans Moving at Whitney-Pearl

Both seek rezonings to build in front of Lowe's

A development company is asking City Council to rezone two parcels at the northeast corner of Pearl and Whitney roads for an O'Charley's restaurant and a Sheetz gas station. Both were introduced in January by WXZ Development Inc., which is seeking to develop the vacant land in front of Lowe's. At the time, some local residents and one councilman opposed a Sheetz in that location. WXZ is seeking to rezone one parcel from General Business to Restaurant-Restaurant Services for O'Charley's and the other from General Businss to Motor Services for Sheetz. The projects have been on hold while legal issues about the foreclosed property went through the courts, but development is now able to move forward. The rezoning legislation will be on City …

O'Charley's Restaurant Looking to Come to Strongsville

Chain of eateries eyeing location at Pearl and Whitney

A Nashville, TN-based chain of restaurants is seeking to locate at the corner of Pearl and Whitney roads. O'Charley's  applied for a liquor permit for 9194 Pearl Rd., which appears to be the vacant lot on the west side of Pearl, across from Mad Cactus and next to the former Quality Catering, which is at 9200 Pearl Rd. UPDATE: City officials learned that the address on the application is incorrect. Two numbers were transposed; with the actual location at 9149 Pearl Rd., in front of Lowe's. The application has been withdrawn for the time being. The eatery describes itself as a fun, casual-dining family restaurant that is known for its fresh-from-the-oven rolls. It also offers steaks, chicken, salads and desserts, as well as a Sunday brunch. …
