News of the Week: Fracking Comes to Town; New Restaurant Opens

Here's what went on in Strongsville over the last few days

Some of the headlines from Strongsville this week: Fracking ahead -- A company expects to use the controversial "hydraulic fracturing" method on two gas/oil wells being drilled on Albion and Webster roads. Pearl Road beautification plan quashed -- A plan by two councilmen to eliminate the "hodge podge" look of development on Route 42 comes under fire. New restaurant -- The Barking Bullfrog, a family friendly sports bar, opens on West 130th Street. School district's $145 million plan -- A closer look at the two-phased plan to build a new middle school and renovate other buildings. Also, the district expects to pick a site for the middle school soon. Couple sought in theft -- Police ask for help identifying an older couple who pocketed money…

Poll: Should the City Beautify Pearl Road?

Councilman has plan to minimize the 'hodgepodge' look of Route 42

Ward 3 Councilman Jim Carbone is working on a plan to beautify Pearl Road by unifying the jumble of storefronts into blocks of consistent architecture, landscaping, and brick and stone color. His plan seeks to make new businesses conform to specific architectural standards and brick color, and add hedge rows, pine trees and black fencing and lamp posts. Pearl Road would be broken into districts, and areas that are still developing -- like the Whitney-Pearl intersection and Giant Eagle's new Market District store  -- would be guided toward a uniform look. Hundreds of Jobs in Strongsville's Future

Widening of Pearl Road opens up 500 acres of industrial land

When Mayor Tom Perciak cut the ribbon on Pearl Road last week, he said the project did not just create a wider roadway. It turned a key to future prosperity. "This opens up 500 acres of industrial land for development," Perciak said. "That's why the completion of Pearl Road was so important to us." The easier access gives the city a better shot at developing the industrial park property -- land that could bring dozens of new manufacturing plants to town, along with hundreds of jobs. The land is located off Foltz Industrial Park, just south of the city's bustling manufacturing and warehouse district. Interest is already strong, the mayor said.
