Hospital tries to slow the spread of the illness; shots still available
With an increasing number of influenza cases reported, Southwest General has modified its patient/visitor policy to help minimize the spread within the hospital. When visiting a patient, here are the new rules, adopted Jan. 10: Medical/Surgical, Critical Care Unit and Maternity: 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. Geriatric Behavioral Health Unit: 11 a.m. – noon and 6–8 p.m. Oakview Behavioral Health Center: 6–8 p.m.

Activities designed to raise awareness of heart disease
Southwest General Health Center is hosting "heart friendly" and "heart fun" events in February to raise awareness of heart disease. Heart disease is the No. 1 cause of death in women, according to the American Heart Association. “Go Red” Baked Goods and Craft Extravaganza — Friday, Feb. 10, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., in the Spine Hallway, for baked good, a craft fest and raffles. Zumba for “Go Red!” -- LifeWorks of Southwest General will host a special fundraising event for the AHA’s “Go Red” campaign. Thomas P. Perciak hospice will be lit by luminarias
Recognize someone special in your life by making a donation for a luminaria that will line the driveway of the Thomas P. Perciak Family Residential Hospice this holiday season. A $5 donation is asked for each luminaria, which can be made in honor of, or in memory of, someone important. You are welcome to write a note to be placed on the luminaria. Luminarias are placed and lit the evening of Dec. 24, with a Christmas Eve Eucharist service held in the Residential Center afterward. Westfield SouthPark, Southwest General team up for weekend events
Southwest General Health Center and Westfield SouthPark will host a weekend of events to support breast cancer awareness and early detection. A Party In Pink A Party that Celebrates Survival Oct. 14-16, 6-8 p.m. Tickets will be available for $5 at the Westfield SouthPark Concierge. Festivities will include: Everyone who dresses in pink will receive a gift courtesy of Westfield SouthPark retailers and participating vendors. Hospital is hosting free family entertainment night Sept. 17
Southwest General Health Center will host a free outdoor family movie Saturday, Sept. 17 at its Strongsville Medical Center, 18181 Pearl Rd. Southwest and Time Warner Cable® Media will present Despicable Me at 8:30 p.m. Bring blankets for a lawn seat on the hill behind the building. The hospital will provide popcorn and giveaways. No alcoholic beverages will be allowed. Guests can start arriving at 7 p.m.
