The Blue Devils beat Strongsville 8-1.
The good news for the Strongsville Mustangs softball team is they will continue into the district tournament. The bad news is they lost their regular season finale to rival Brunswick 8-1 on Friday. The host Blue Devils scored most of their runs in the first inning, getting six of their first eight batters on base, capped by a bases clearing triple. The Mustangs will continue their post season run against Middleburg Heights Midpark on Tuesday, May 21 at 4:30 p.m. at Day Park in Parma. Strongsville beat Berea 2-1 on Thursday.

Mark Smithberger will be recommended for the job for the start of the next school year.
On May 16, SHS Now said on Facebook that a recommendation will be made to the Strongsville Board of Education to make Mark Smithberger the next principal of the high school. On the district's website, the high school is already congratulating Smithberger for the promotion. "SHS would like to Welcome Mr. Smithberger as our next SHS Principal. He will be replacing Mr. Steffen for next school year.We would like to give a big 'THANK YOU' to Mr. Steffen for his time of fine leadership and wish him the best in his retirement!" Smithberger has been assistant principal for the last three years. Prior to his career in Strongsville, he was also an athletic director for another school district. Strongsville High School is investigating incident
The healing has not begun quite yet in the aftermath of the Strongsville teachers strike. A Spanish teacher at Strongsville High School who crossed the picket line and returned to work several weeks ago arrived Tuesday morning to find some of her belongings had been moved from one classroom to another -- and ruined in the process. High School Principal William Steffen said he is looking into it. "I'm not sure we're going to find out who did it, but we're investigating it," he said. Rumors of the vandalism swirled on Facebook throughout the day, with parents saying Maria Schleich was in tears when she found her property damaged. After 15 years leading the Mustangs, the coach says goodbye.
Strongsville boys basketball coach Joe Lynch has stepped down after 15 seasons. Lynch, 69, who has been coaching for nearly 40 years, resigned last week, according to The Plain Dealer. He is ending his time at Strongsville with a 210-129 record and 533-296 overall in his coaching career. Lynch was the coach at St. Peter Chanel for 23 seasons before becoming athletic director in Strongsville in 1991, the paper reports. He became the basketball coach in 1998. His decorated career was nearly tarnished by accusations of bullying players, but was cleared after an investigation by the district. Read the full story on The Plain Dealer.

Strongsville is the 88th best high school in Ohio and 1,534th nationally, according to the annual rankings prepared by U.S. News & World Report. The school recieved the silver medal and was praised for its participation rate (28 percent) in Advanced Placement courses. Strongsville High School students organized and performed during "Teen Idol" this weekend, reports our news partner at WEWS Channel 5.
Despite the teachers' strike, there is some happy news coming from Strongsville schools. On Saturday Strongsville High School students put on a show by themselves showcasing their singing talent, our news partner at WEWS Channel 5 reports. Strongsville High School Teen Idol featured fifteen contestants who belted out some of their favorite songs. There were three judges who found the talent impressive. The show was sponsored by the choral club and was organized by students, who are also planning another show in May. The Strongsville teachers strike is entering its eighth week after negotiations broke down between the Strongsville Teachers Association and school board on Sunday. Rotary Foundation is awarding $19,000 in college scholarships.
The Strongsville Rotary Foundation will award $19,000 worth of college scholarships to high school seniors who live in Strongsville this year. Applications are available in the Strongsville High School guidance office or on the Strongsville Rotary website, at www.strongsvillerotary.org. Applications must be received by Rotary by Tuesday, May 7 to be considered. Mailing instructions are on the applications. The including those who attend parochial schools and Polaris Joint Vocational School. Additional scholarships will be awarded to students on the Strongsville High School Connections Program.

Incident was not criminal and there will be no police investigation, chief says
The Strongsville Police Department received a report of a substitute teacher allegedly harassing a female student at Strongsville High School Wednesday. The complaint referred to a possible inappropriate conversation between the sub and student. Police Chief James Kobak said police documented the complaint and passed it along to the school district, which may investigate it internally. Kobak said there was nothing criminal about the alleged remarks, "just what they felt was inappropriate behavior." Strongsville teachers are in their sixth week of a strike that forced the district to hire more than 250 substitute teachers to oversee classes.
