Toboggan Chutes Open for Martin Luther King Day

Cleveland Metroparks Chalet will have special hours on holiday

  The Chalet Toboggan Chutes will have special hours on Martin Luther King Jr. Day Jan. 21. The chutes, located in the Cleveland Metroparks' Mill Stream Run Reservation in Strongsville, will be open noon to 5 p.m. Regular hours at the chutes are: Daily admission for tobogganing is $10 for adults and $8 for children 11 and under. One-time ride tickets are available for $4. Group discounts during public hours are available. This year, a newly installed lift takes toboggans to the top of the hill so riders no longer have to carry them up. The twin refrigerated ice chutes start with an initial drop of 70 feet, traveling over 700 feet of ice at more than 45 mph.   All riders must wear gloves or mittens. Children must be at least 42 inches tall …

Toboggan Season Will End with Special Events, Prizes

As thanks for a great season, Cleveland Metroparks Chalet Toboggan Chutes will host Chalet Appreciation Day on Saturday, March 10. Throughout the day, the Chalet staff will be making announcements for food specials, giveaways, enter-to-win drawings for passes for the Fall Hayrides and the 2012-13 tobogganing season.  Tobogganing at the Chalet can be enjoyed through March 11, weather permitting, on the regular days of operation: In addition to the Chalet Appreciation Day promotion ,visitors can enjoy all the other remaining promotions at the Chalet: March 9: Dollar Day - $1 hot dogs and $1 sodas March 11: Family Four-Pack - $30 for 4 toboggan passes, 4 hot dogs and 4 sodas.  All promotional items are with paid admission (while supplies last…

With kids home from school and many people off work for Presidents Day, the toboggan chutes at the Cleveland Metroparks Chalet have special afternoon hours today. The chutes will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Tobogganing at the Chalet can also be enjoyed through March 11, weather permitting, on the regular days of operation: Thursdays -- 6-10 p.m. All students with a valid I.D. pay $5. Fridays -- 6-10:30 p.m. Saturdays -- noon-10:30 p.m. Sunday -- noon-5 p.m. Admission, including the use of toboggans and unlimited rides for the day, is $8 for adults and $6 for children 11 and under. Looking for something for the kids to do when they're off school Monday? Tobogganing at the Chalet will be open from noon to 5 p.m. on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, according to Cleveland Metroparks. The chutes will be open through March 11, weather permitting, on the regular days of operation: Admission fee, including the use of toboggans and unlimited rides for the day, is $8 for adults and $6 for children, 11 and under. One-time ride tickets are also available for $3. Group discounts are available, too. Tobogganing may be canceled or the hours changed due to unfavorable weather and/or ice conditions. All riders must wear gloves or mittens. Children must be at least 42 inches tall to ride and be accompanied by an adult.

Metroparks to Have New 'Winterrific' Event at Chalet

Dog sleds, nature hikes, ice carving and more set for Jan. 8

Cleveland Metroparks is introducing a new event designed to show what Mother Nature has to offer in the winter season. Winteriffic will run from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8 at the Chalet Recreation Area in Strongsville. Visitors can enjoy free nature hikes, dog sled demonstrations, ice carving demonstrations, winter crafts for kids and winter "how-to-dress" demonstrations. There will also be horse-drawn wagon rides for $5 a person and snowshoe rental and instruction available for $10 per person. Visitors can also take a shuttle bus to see ice fishing demonstrations at the near-by Wallace Lake.   Plus, while there, you can ride the Chalet Toboggan Chutes - the only public ice chutes in Ohio. Here's the schedule: Dec. 21, 22, 23 -- Noon to 10:30 p.m. Dec. 24 -- Noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 25 -- Closed Dec. 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30 -- Noon to 10:30 p.m. Dec. 31 -- Noon to 5 p.m. Jan. 1 -- Noon to 5 p.m. Riders climb aboard a traditional wooden toboggan, but that's where the tradition ends. Cleveland Metroparks Chalet Toboggan Chutes have kicked off a winter season of icy fun.  Riders climb aboard a traditional wooden toboggan, but that's where the tradition ends. The twin refrigerated ice chutes are approximately 700 feet long with an initial vertical drop of 70 feet for a fast, thrill-producing ride.  The chutes operate with or without snow.
