Someone 'Butchering a Pig,' Report Says; Officer Assaulted: Police Blotter

The following information was provided by the Strongsville Police Department

A Benbow Road resident heard suspicious noises from the house across the street June 8 -- "terrible noises like someone butchering a pig," a report said.

Police talked with the resident, who said they have four dogs and it's possible the neighbor heard his mother calling in the dogs from the yard.

He had no other explanation for the noises and police found nothing amiss at the home.

Assault on an Officer

A Hawks Lookout man faces a felony charge for allegedly hitting a police officer in the face during an arrest early Saturday morning.

Thomas Probst, 30, has been charged with OVI, possession of marijuana and paraphernalia and fleeing, Detective Lt. John Janowski said.

Police will also seek a felony assault charge.

Janowski said the officer saw Probst speeding on Howe Road about 1:30 a.m., but when he activated his lights and siren, the Probst accelerated, eventually pulling into a driveway on Hawks Lookout.

As the officer tried to make an arrest, Probst allegedly struck the officer in the face, injuring him.

Probst then ran inside, with police in pursuit, and jumped out a second-story window.

He was located by another officer on Bob White Circle and apprehended after a foot chase and a Taser deployment.

Found, But Not Really Lost

Sometimes, things look a little more interesting than they actually are from a passing car.

A caller reported seeing a woman's purse lying in the grass near the Target driveway June 7.

Police investigated and found a piece of plastic with a strap that kind of looked like a purse.

The next day, someone saw a cell phone on Royalton Road at I-71.

Not exactly. It was a piece of rubber, a report said.
