Trash Picking Posing Problems For Some, Councilman Says

Strongsville Councilman at large Joe DeMio says some residents are complaining about late-night garbage pickers in their neighborhood.

"We get it. Times are tough," DeMio said. "But the trucks are loud."

It's not illegal to take items from tree lawns in Strongsville, other than recyclables, which are off limits.

But Police Chief Jim Kobak said people seeking scrap metal are driving the streets in the middle of the night.

"They'll throw a bicycle or some other piece of metal into the back of their truck and that can be noisy at 2 a.m.," Kobak said.

Officers will be on the lookout for trash pickers, he said. If any are violating the law by making too much noise or leaving a mess behind, they will be cited for those offenses.
