Strongsville Rotary Member to Walk in Rose Parade

John Turnbull of Strongsville will be among the 16 Rotarians from around the world accompanying the Rotary International float in the 2013 Tournament of Roses Rose Parade in Pasadena, CA on New Year’s Day.

Turnbull, secretary of the Rotary Club of Strongsville, was selected to walk along side the float in the 124th annual event.

The Rotary float will reflect the service organization’s 2012-2013 theme of “Peace through Service” and will feature a world globe representing the community and global service performed by Rotary International’s 1.2 million members in more than 210 countries worldwide.

The float was funded by financial contributions of Rotary clubs worldwide, including the Rotary Club of Strongsville.

“I am honored to have been chosen to represent the Rotary Club of Strongsville and Rotary International and help spread the word about the projects our club undertakes locally and internationally, as well as Rotary International’s projects,” Turnbull said. 

The televised 5.5-mile parade will feature 42 floats, 23 bands and 21 equestrian units.

It will begin at 11 a.m. and will be broadcast live live by ABC, NBC, Univision, Tribune (KTLA), Hallmark Channel, HGTV (Home & Garden Television), RFD-TV and Sky Link TV.

The Rotary Club of Strongsville, with about 160 members, is the largest Rotary club in Northeast Ohio. You can find a YouTube video of the Rotary float on the group's Facebook page.
