Year-Round Story Times!

Cuyahoga County Public Library offers story time sessions year-round for children birth to grade 2.  Story Time sessions are in full swing!  Please call the Strongsville Branch for program information and more details.

Practice ACT Exam.  Grades 6 – 12.  Saturday, Oct. 1 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Take a practice ACT and be ready for the real thing. Bring a No. 2 sharpened pencil and calculator to the practice exam. Exam will start promptly at 10 a.m. Sponsored by the Princeton Review.

The New Job Search.  Monday, Oct. 3 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

The Library's Career Center Librarian will present an overview of how to find a job. Learn about job search techniques and online resources being used to help you create a resume and prepare for an interview.

Young at Heart Book Club.  Meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. 
A book club for adults who love children’s and teen books.  Our next discussion will be on Tuesday, Oct. 4. Please register in person to pick up a copy of the book The Cardturner by Lois Sacher.  Join us for refreshments and a sprightly discussion of children’s and teen literature.

Memory Fitness: Impact of Multitasking.  Wednesday, Oct. 5 from 2 – 3 p.m.  If you have complaints of forgetfulness, this program will The busyness of the 21st century has brought with it an increase in multitasking. It has a significant impact on your ability to remember, your overall disposition and your accuracy as well as safety.  What may seem like multitasking may really be task switching. Learn some tips on how to handle these situations and information to pass along to your favorite multitaskers.

Introduction to Reiki.  Thursday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m.
This program is an introduction and the history of Reiki.  Join us as certified master practitioner, Sandra Senick, demonstrates how to incorporate the healing power of reiki into your daily life.  Reiki is Japanese for "Universal Life Energy"  and can be used to support other medical treatments as a natural healing art.

Moon Party. Tuesday, Oct. 11 from 7 – 8:30 p.m.  All Ages.

Celebrate International Observe the Moon Night at one of our moon parties!  Go outside with Cuyahoga Astronomical Association to examine the features of the moon.  Telescopes will be provided, or bring your own to get tips on viewing the night sky. In case of inclement weather, join us inside the library to learn about the moon, telescopes and astronomy.

Books Uncovered: Finding Money in Your Old Books.  Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m.  
In support of Octavofest: Celebrating the Book and Paper Arts, we will be hosting this program on rare books.  Come to hear a short presentation on what makes a book rare and valuable.  Then we invite all participants to bring a maximum of three books which will be evaluated for free at the end of the presentation by one of the experts from Zubal Books.  Please note: this program is for information purposes only.  Zubal Books will not be purchasing any books at this event from any attendees in the audience.

Just 4 U Student Friends Meeting.  Saturday, Oct. 15 from 11 a.m. – noon.  Ages 10 – 18.  
Join the Just 4 U Student Friends group and get involved in your library! You can help your library with volunteer projects and other activities. Contact the Teen Librarian or Children's Librarian for an application. 

National Chemistry Week – Our Health, Our Future.  Saturday, Oct. 15 from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.  Grades 2 – 6.  Registration begins on Monday, Oct. 3
 
Come join us for fun, hands-on activities that let you get close to the action!  Be prepared to get in and get messy.  Led by volunteers from the American Chemical Society.

Wednesday Evening Book Discussion. Meets the third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m.  New members welcome!  Our next discussion will be on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m.  In October, we will discuss the book The Lace Reader by Brunonia Barry.  Copies will be available to pick-up at the circulation desk.  Join us for great conversation!

Monday Afternoon Book Discussion.  Meets the fourth Monday of each month at 2:30 p.m.  New members welcome!

Strongsville Saves Coupon Club.  Meets the fourth Monday of each month from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.  Next meeting is on Oct. 24.
Join us for our coupon swap club and share your passion for saving with other like-minded shoppers!  Bring your scissors, and your stockpile of manufacturer coupons to share.  Share what you don't want and hopefully leave with more coupons that you really need!  This is the place to trade coupons, spend time with other coupon lovers, and share stories of great deals!  See how others organize and share tips.


Teen READ Book Club.  Grades 5 – 8.  Monday, Oct. 24 from 7 – 8 p.m. 
Join us for a book discussion club just for you! Refreshments will be served and you can win a free book as a door prize.  Contact the library for copies of the book being discussed.  Refreshments will be served.  Registration is requested.

Reach for Your Goals with Learning Express.  Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.  
Learning Express Library database is a great place to look for practice tests and study guides for a variety of exams.  Over 770 online practice tests and interactive skill-building tutorials are available. This class will focus on using Learning Express to prepare for the GED, ACT and SAT.  Students will be taught how to set up an account, access the database from home and the library, and how to navigate the database.
