One of the best movies ever made, a feel-good story and a heartbreaking drama

Here are this week's recommendations from Joseph Jones of the Strongsville branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library.

The Complete Metropolis — Originally released in 1927, this sci-fi epic is set in 2026 where the population lives a utopian existence -- until one of them discovers a world beneath the city filled with the working class who maintain the machinery that runs their world. Thanks to a recently discovered copy of the film, an additional 25 minutes of footage has been added that has not been seen since the original release. See why this is still considered one of the greatest movies ever made.

Nice Guy Johnny — Do you give up your dream job for one with more stability? That is what Johnny has to decide when his fiancée wants him to quit his job as a sports radio deejay and instead go to work for her father in the cardboard box industry. Johnny’s Uncle Terry has other ideas though in this feel-good movie where nice guys can get what they really want.

Extraordinary Measures — Based on a true story, John and Aileen Crowley have two children with a rare and often fatal disease. Teaming up with an eccentric scientist, they race to find a cure before it is too late for their children. At times heartbreaking, this is a remarkable story of a family who refuses to quit.
