The author, Shaara, draws on meticulous research and tells this story from the perspectives of characters on both sides of war.  It is a fictional account of one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War, and recreates the April 1862 surprise attack by Confederate forces on the Union Army at Shiloh. This is the first novel in a new spellbinding historical trilogy. Fans of Shaara’s military fiction will definitely enjoy this powerful new novel.

House of the Hunted: a Novel By Mark Mills, April 2012, 320 pages.

Former British special agent Tom Nash is enjoying a rather idyllic life with his privileged friends on France’s Côte d’Azur in 1935, hiding the pains and horrors of his past, when he’s suddenly attacked in the middle of a quiet night. The assassin fails but now Nash must fall back on his espionage instincts, distrust everybody around him, and relive the memories of a woman executed 16 years before by Russia’s Bolsheviks if he’s to save himself and the other people he loves. Fans of Graham Greene and Alan Furst should give this a try.

The Lion is In By Catherine Chung, March 2012, 352 pages.

Three women on the run take refuge in a roadside nightclub and come face-to-face with a lion. One's a runaway bride and kleptomaniac, one's a recovering alcoholic, and one's a housewife who's been made to believe she has no imagination. Oh yeah, and the lion, Marcel, is a retired circus performer. Working in the club, the women come to feel right at home as they navigate the back roads of the human heart. When their pasts catch up with them, they have to decide if they're willing to fight for the strange, charmed life they've made with Marcel. Told with witty dialogue and loveable characters, this novel is a truly delightful read about friendship, love, and learning how to salsa with the king of the jungle.
