This Week's DVD Picks

A family film, drama and coming-of-age story are recommended viewing

Joseph Jones of the Cuyahoga County Public Library has come up with three more great movie choices for the weekend, all available at the branch, 18700 Westwood Drive.

How to Train Your Dragon — This is a movie that the whole family will enjoy, filled with outstanding visuals, great characters and a wonderful story that will hold up for years to come.  Hiccup is a Viking teenager who can’t quite follow in his father’s footsteps. He then meets Toothless, who is a dragon. Instead of slaying the dragon as his people would do, Hiccup instead becomes friends with Toothless and together they learn to see the world in a different way.

Greenberg  — In a departure from his usual comedy roles, Ben Stiller plays a clinically depressed fortyish man who travels to L.A. to housesit for his brother.  While there, he tries to reconnect with his old bandmates and instead meets Florence. Together these two lost souls just may be able to find the happiness they so desperately seek.

Fish Tank — This gritty coming-of-age story finds 15-year-old Mia trying to survive her bleak surroundings. Living with her mother and younger sister, Mia’s only joy in life is dancing. Then she meets her mother’s new boyfriend Connor. Covering ground we have seen before, it is Katie Jarvis’s performance that will keep you watching even when you want to look away.
