Strongsville's Unemployment Rate Among Lowest in County

September figures show city has dipped below 6 percent

Strongsville's unemployment rate was among the lowest in Cuyahoga County in September, according to figures from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

Strongsville came in at 5.8 percent, first among the county's cities with populations of 25,000 or more. North Royalton's rate was 6.3 percent, Westlake was at 6.4 percent and Lakewood, 6.5.

Notably, Cuyahoga County’s rate as a whole has dropped from an estimated 9.4 percent in January to 7.9 percent in September. The statewide rate dropped from an estimated 9.3 to 9.1 percent during the same time.

Mayor Tom Perciak heralded the declining unemployment rate during a recent state of the city speech, saying Strongsville works harder, smarter and is more efficient.

One of the mayor's main focuses is economic development and creating jobs here.
