School Of Rock Open House Really Rocked!

It was a rocking good evening at the School of Rock Open House. This place is great for people who love rock'n'roll music and want to get better at performing, right in Strongsville, Ohio!

The first time I met Shelly Norehad at a Chamber of Commerce meeting, she was all excited about the new School of Rock opening in Strongsville. Her enthusiasm was contagious as I thought about which of my son's friends might like to enroll. Yesterday, I received an email reminding me of the Open House for Grad School, essentially for musicians and singers over 21 years old.

I drove with my son, Kevin, and didn't tell him where we were going. His eyes lit up as we pulled into the parking lot and the big School of Rock Sign loomed above us. Kevin likes to play base and started a few lessons off and on elsewhere. We were welcomed by John Koury, the general manager, and were soon talking to other visitors and instructors. We went into the jammin' room (I have no idea what they call it) and everyone started picking up instruments and playing together. This was not your cut and dry stale lesson place. It was obvious that the instructors loved what they were doing.

They started with AC DC's TNT, did some Bachman Turner Overdrive, switched to Jumpin' Jack Flash by the Rolling Stones, played Money by Pink Floyd and more. All the while, the visiting potential students were playing their specialty instruments. I was so impressed with their enthusiasm - and sound, of course! The adult Grad School program combines private lessons with group rehearsals and ends with one or two on-stage performances at a local venue in January or February. How cool is that!?!

It looks like they could use a key board player and at least one vocalist, plus additional players on other instruments. Don't be shy. Kevin got up there and jumped right in; you can too!

From their correspondence:  School of Rock is now enrolling for our Adult Performance Program where adult students get individual lessons on guitar, bass, drums, keys and vocals along with weekly band rehearsals.  Whether you are an experienced musician looking to get back on stage or just learning for the first time, it's time to grab your guitar, warm up those vocals, and prepare to rock.
