Strongsville Library Announces Events, Programs for February

Year-Round Story Times -- Cuyahoga County Public Library offers story time sessions year-round for children of all ages. Call the  for program information and more details.

Young at Heart Book Club -- Meets at 7 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month. A book club for adults who love children’s and teen books.  Next discussion will be on Feb. 1; register in person to pick up a copy of the book Through My Eyes: The Autobiography of Ruby Bridges by Ruby Bridges.

Kaplan College Admissions Workshop -- For ages 14 and up, this one-hour workshop set for 6:30 p.m. Feb. 7  is designed to show students and parents what college admissions officers expect from applicants' high school experiences.  Topics covered include a variety of admissions policies and the key factors used by admissions officers when making admissions decisions.  Registration is required.

Almost Guiltless Desserts -- Looking for great recipe ideas that won't break your diet? Then join Home Economist Susan Aldrich as she shares her delicious reduced-fat recipes at 7 p.m. Feb. 9. Registration is required.

Black History’s Great Contributions to the World -- History comes alive through storytelling, innovative games, and the singing of spirituals.  Students in grades 2-6 are invited to gain a unique understanding of history through the tapestry of music through the ages, singing of songs, spirituals, call and response chants at 7 p.m. Feb. 15. Find out what would happen if “Black History” did not exist.  Youth will use their imagination to creatively place the puzzle pieces of history back together again.  Registration is required. 

Wednesday Evening Book Discussion -- Meets at 7 p.m. the third Wednesday of the month. New members are welcome. Next discussion, on Feb. 16, is on  The Faith Club  by Ranya Idliby.  Copies of the book will be available for check-out at the circulation desk.

Just 4 U Student Friends -- Kids 10-18 can join Just 4 U Student Friends and help your library with volunteer projects and other activities from 11 a.m. to noon Feb. 19.

What’s on Your Plate -- Free chips, guacamole and a movie from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Feb. 21.  This witty and informative movie addresses the same ideas behind Chipotle's Food with Integrity philosophy, as well as the importance of supporting local farms and knowing where your food comes from.  For kids 10-18. Registration is required.

Revisiting the Cleveland Botanical Gardens -- Go down memory lane with boathouses, books and the famous white elephant sale through archival photographs highlighting the Botanical Garden's illustrious past at 7 p.m. Feb. 23.  Registration is requested.

Strongsville Kiwanis Read Around the World -- The Strongsville Kiwanis Club sponsors this event for all ages, set for 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 26. Each child attending can choose a current book to take home and members of Kiwanis will be available to read books to them.  The Sts. Joseph and John Builder's Club members will perform a puppet show at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. There will also be face painting and light refreshments. No registration needed for this free event.


Monday Afternoon Book Discussion -- Meets the fourth Monday of the month at 2:30 p.m. New members are welcome. The next discussion, on Feb. 28, is on Peony in Love  by Lisa See. Copies are available at the circulation desk.

Strongsville Saves Coupon Club -- Meets the fourth Monday of the month from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Next meeting is Feb. 28. Share your passion for saving with other like-minded shoppers at this coupon swap club.  Bring your scissors, and your stockpile of manufacturer coupons to share.  This is the place to trade coupons, spend time with other coupon lovers and share stories of great deals. See how others organize and share tips with other "couponers."
