Bomb Threat Closes Strongsville Schools; Classes Resume Tuesday

High School students evacuated, sent home

UPDATED 5:30 p.m.

Students at Strongsville High School were evacuated Monday morning by a bomb threat.

Officials and students say the threat came in the form of graffiti painted on the building, rather than a phone call. School officials set off a fire alarm to get the building evacuated.

Police Chief Jim Kobak said police were called at 7:13 a.m., when the "menacing graffiti" spray painted on the front of the high school was noticed.

"Although there was no credible information to warrant any validation of the threat, school officials decided to evacuate the students while the police conducted a sweep of the building," Kobak said in a new release.

Student at the high school were sent to Catan Stadium, then released to go home. Buses were sent to pick up the students.

Because the buses were in use, the district canceled classes at all Strongsville elementary schools and the Early Learning Preschool next to the high school.

Middle school students were already on their way to classes, and middle schools remained open.

Kobak said Monday afternoon police had no suspects yet and the investigation was continuing.

Superintendent John Krupinski said Monday afternoon that classes would resume in all buildings on Tuesday.

"Police Chief Kobak confirmed that no credible information has been found to warrant validation of the graffiti threats found at Strongsville High School this morning," Krupinski said in a press release. "Additional measures by both police and school personnel have been implemented to ensure the safety of all students and staff.'
