Police Blotter: Chalk This One Up to Cat Burglars

The following information was provided by the Strongsville police department

A tenant at a Whitney Road apartment reported a burglary Wednesday morning after she went up to her unit and found the door ajar.

She peeked inside and saw a mess, with CDs and DVDs all over the floor, a report said.

But the report said nothing was missing and there were no signs of forced entry.

After the woman spoke with police, she said it's possible her two cats made the mess, and that she mght have accidently left her door open.

Police were called to Misty Lake Drive about 6 p.m. Oct. 10 by someone who said a woman was walking a special needs child with a leash around his neck.

Officers spoke with the woman, who said she and her 8-year-old nephew were playing. She said the boy had seen someone walking a dog and wanted to mimic it, so they took turns doing it.

There were no marks on the child, but police cautioned the woman about what others would think if they saw their game.

Monster Truck

Police are called to help people who have locked themselves out of their cars all the time, but a man declined their help Oct. 11.

The driver said he feared the officer's tools would damage his monster truck -- which cost $100,000 and had a custom paint job.

Warm Evenings = Mischief

Four residents called police late Oct. 12 and early Oct. 13 about kids causing problems.

On Donegal Lane, a woman spotted two boys and a girl stealing the "for sale" sign in her yard.

Minutes later, a Kelsey Lane woman said kids had just smashed her pumpkins.

Shortly before 1 a.m., kids egged a house on Wellington Court.

And an hour later, youngsters rang doorbells on East Bend Drive, and also threw a garbage can. Police saw three kids running toward Drake Road.

Asleep at the Wheel

A man who lives at a Pearl Road motel was found standing in the middle of Pearl and Sprague roads about 1:40 a.m. Oct. 12.

A report said it appeared the man had fallen asleep leaning on his cart in the middle of the road. Officers escorted him to safety.
