Police Blotter: Driver Chases People with Tire Iron; Hiding in Driveway Doesn't Fool Officer

A witness called police to the Greens of Strongsville Dec. 20 after seeing a man jump out of his car and chase someone with a tire iron.

A report said the man was stopped near TGI Fridays, screaming at someone about 6:50 p.m., then ran through the parking lot with the tool.

He then got back in his car and sped off.

Police contacted the driver, who acknowledged he'd had an altercation with two pedestrians who were banging on his vehicle, claiming he had almost struck them.

He admitted to getting out with the tire iron, which caused the two pedestrians to flee.

Police warned the man that his actions did not constitute self-defense and gave him advice on how the situation should have been handled.

Woman Attacked at Home

A Drake Road woman told police she was going in her front door after taking her husband to work about 7 a.m. Dec. 15 when she was assaulted from behind.

The victim heard a male and a female voice, but did not see her attackers or their car.

She was hit in the face, head and ribs, a report said.

The woman told police she may know who jumped her, but she isn't sure.

Vehicles Damaged

A Blazing Star Drive resident said someone has been bending the license plates on four vehicles in his driveway over the last month.

It's happened several times, a report said. Also, one car was egged over the weekend.

Hiding in a Driveway

A man apparently thought he could avoid being stopped by police by pulling into someone's driveway around 1:20 a.m. Dec. 19, but it didn't work.

A report said an officer on Royalton Road noticed a car with only one headlight and turned around to check it out.

The driver made an abrupt turn onto Pearlview Drive, pulled into the driveway near the house and put the car in park.

The officer followed and questioned the man, who said he was just turning around, but couldn't explain why he'd put the car in park.

He eventually admittted he was trying to lose the officer because he was driving without a license.

Missing Teen 

A Strongsville mom called for help Dec. 19 when she went to pick up her 16-year-old daughter at Spudnuts in Berea, but the girl wasn't there.

A report said the girl had called for a ride home an hour earlier. 

Police couldn't find her, either. They entered her in the system as a missing juvenile.
