Police Blotter: Theft from Car; Girls and TP; Strange Mailbox Incident

The following information was provided by the Strongsville police department

A Woodlawn Court family realized their son's backpack was stolen from their car only after a neighbor found it behind his home Aug. 25.

The residents told police they thought the backpack disappeared from the college their son attends.

Now they believe it was taken from their car Aug. 9, when he was packing to leave for school.

Missing are books, a graphing calculator, a knife and multi-tool.

No Taking, Just Leaving

Acacia Drive residents called police about 4:30 a.m. Aug. 26 when they heard kids running through the yards and opening and closing car doors.

They were gone when police arrived, but a report said it appears they were opening and closing doors to their own vehicles, not parked cars.

Police said three or four carloads of girls toilet-papered a house.

Mailbox Fights Back

A pickup truck with a loud exhaust hit a mailbox on Prospect Road about 10:30 p.m. Aug. 26 and kept on going, a report said.

A van following behind then hit the mailbox lying in the road and had to call for a tow truck.

A report said although the mailbox was wedged under the van, there didn't appear to be significant damage to the vehicle.

Police believe they have identified the driver who struck the mailbox.

Free Car Wash

Motorists had their cars soaked by sprinklers at property at 18181 Pearl Road about midnight Aug. 25.

A report said about five sprinkler heads were spraying directly onto oncoming traffic.

Police tried to contact Southwest, but said the problem probably wouldn't be fixed till morning.
