Rash of Car Break-Ins Hits Area

Spree started in Medina and has moved north

A rash of car break-ins has plagued the area for the last few months, with thieves targeting women's purses.

Police Chief Charles Goss said there have been 20 to 30 offenses in the last six to eight weeks, most in Medina and Brunswick.

"There have only been a few north of Boston Road so far," Goss said.

But he said he believes the still-at-large thieves plaguing Medina County are responsible for two incidents at  Jan. 29 in which .

"It's the same M.O.," Goss said. "They look for a purse on the seat of a car, then punch the window."

Officers here are keeping an eye out for the thieves in Strongsville, especially since the incidents outside the church. 

Police advise women not to leave their purses in their cars, especially in plain sight. 

One victim of a car break-in told Strongsville Patch last month she thought her purse was safe because she covered it with a coat, but the theives apparently were not fooled.
