Final Election Results: School Levy Crushed, Council Incumbents Advance

Winning council candidates will face off in November

The 9.9-mill school levy has been overwhelmingly defeated, according to results from the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections.

Unofficial results show the levy lost 9,772 to 1,745.

In Ward 2, incumbent Ray Haseley and 19-year-old Matthew Schonhut will face off in November. Haseley received almost double the votes of the next-highest challenger, garnering 1,172 to Schonhut's 606. Next was Bill White with 456, then  Anthony Zubek with 403 and Nathan Prahst with 181.

In Ward 3, where incumbent Mark Roth is not seeking re-election, Jim Carbone, a North Olmsted police officer, will vie with realtor Larry Frawley in November. Carbone got 1,379 votes to Frawley's 1,015. Tom McMillen trailed with 707.

In Ward 4, Scott Maloney, who was appointed to the post earlier this year, will advance to the general election, as will Patricia Pell. Maloney garnered 996 votes to Pell's 813. In third place was Steven Sinisgalli with 516. Pell is a former council representative in Parma.

Mayor Tom Perciak and Ward 1 Councilman Mike Daymut were not opposed in their re-election bids.

The Strongsville School Board has already placed a 6.9-mill, four levy levy on the Aug. 2 special election ballot. School officials, who said recently the district can get by with a smaller levy, did not expect Issue 8 to pass today.
