Lots of Rain, But Little Flooding

Strongsville weathered the wet week well

The steady rain on Wednesday helped break a precipitation record in northeast Ohio, but the water caused little flooding in Strongsville.

Service Director Joe Walker said one homeowner reported water in his basement and one resident called about high water in a ditch.

A few months ago, a similar rain would probably have led to 20 or 30 , Walker estimates.

"We spent all summer on ," he said. "I hope they're working."

Also a big factor yesterday was the drizzly nature of the rain.

"We got a lot of rain, but the intensity wasn't bad," Walker said. "Two inches of rain in six hours -- you survive it. Two inches in one hour and you've got trouble."

brought in several local contractors to clean out ditches, replace broken storm sewers and make other repairs to try to alleviate flooding this year.
