New Ballfields Could Be Ready for Spring Play

Fences going up at Youth Sports Park on Lunn Road

Work on three new youth baseball fields on Lunn Road is progressing quickly enough that they could be in use on opening day, Mayor Tom Perciak said.

"We hope to have them ready for spring play," Perciak said.

The three fields, located next to the Strongsville Football League field and across from Volunteer Park, will be used by players 5-12 this Little League season.

Fences are now going up at the fields, said Perciak, an admitted baseball fan.

"I'm excited for the kids," he said.

The city purchased the 25-acre site in 2008 and the following year leased part of it to the football league for a field. Last year, city officials announced plans to add baseball diamonds to the park.

Officials have said the new diamonds will help relieve overcrowding on the existing fields, which are used by the city's recreational leagues.
