'Scab' Posters Turn Up Near Teacher's Home

Fliers about a 'scab' were reportedly distributed near the Parma home of a Strongsville teacher who crossed the picket line of his striking colleagues.

Safety Director Charles Goss said Strongsville police were alerted to the matter by Parma police, who learned of the fliers Thursday morning.

The fliers read "Do you know a scab lives in your neighborhood?" and go on to say that the man is a scab because he chose to cross the picket lines of the Strongsville Education Association.

"SEA members are on strike because they are fighting for a fair and equitable contract," it says. 

The man's actions "harm the collective bargaining rights of SEA members and all union members in their efforts to achieve fair and equitable contracts."

The papers included the teacher's name and address and were placed in residents' doors.

A handful of Strongsville teachers have chosen not to participate in the strike and are in their classrooms this week.

This is the fourth day of the teachers' strike, which was called by the SEA March 4 after contract negotiations broke down.
