Spring Break Will be Earlier Next Year

Proposed school calendar shows kids are off last week of March

A committee of school officials has put together proposed school calendars for the next two years.

The biggest change is in spring break, which is scheduled to be the last week in March during 2013 and 2014.

Assistant Superintendent John Krupinski said Strongsville schools are traditionally closed the week after Easter.

But that conflicts with the break at Polaris Career Center, which is always the last week of March.

So next year, because Easter falls on March 31, Strongsville will take off the last week of March as well, he said.

The following year, Easter is April 20, meaning the traditional break would conflict with standardized testing, Krupinski said.

So break is again slated for the last week of March.

The proposed calendars for the 2012-13 and 2013-14 will be posted on the school district's website for parents to review and comment on.

The board is expected to take action at its next meeting Feb. 16.

No other major changes are in store. Next year's winter break has kids going to school through Friday, Dec. 21 and returning to classes Jan. 3.
